For Vicky, a 65-year-old musician, music has always been a personal joy, a quiet passion she nurtured throughout her life. But she never had the opportunity to play alongside others, to share music as part of a group—until she found Play Together.
When she saw a video inviting non-professional musicians to join an ensemble, she knew this was her moment. From the very first rehearsal in September 2023, Play Together became more than just a music program—it became her haven.
"This is where I can breathe," she says, "a space where my only worry is the music, where I share with people who feel the same joy and passion I do."
Then, in December 2024, her world turned upside down. Her husband was diagnosed with cancer.
"A thousand things go through your mind. Your life is completely shaken—not just emotionally, but in every possible way. Daily routines collapse. Everything becomes chaos."
As his health declined, hospital visits and treatments took priority, and she found it challenging to attend rehearsals. She considered dropping out altogether. But Play Together never let her feel alone. Her fellow musicians continued sending her rehearsal recordings, ensuring she wouldn't fall behind. They checked in on her regularly, offering emotional support, encouragement, and hope.
"They became my friends—not just people I played with, but a real community," she says.
When she was finally able to return to rehearsals, it was like coming back to an oasis—a moment of peace in the middle of the storm.
"Without Play Together, I wouldn't be as strong to face this challenge as I am now. I would feel lonely and isolated."
For Vicky, the music is important, but the people are essential. She cherishes the bonds they've built, the support they've given, and the quality of the instruction they receive.
"This program extends well beyond the rehearsal studio," she says. "It gives you a community that stands beside you through every note and every challenge."
